- How are FlutterBalls™ different than other cat balls?
FlutterBalls™ include feather attachments made from natural, undyed feathers that have prey-like appeal to most cats. The long, fluttery plumage seems to trigger an instinctual "hunting" response. Of course, detach the feathers and FlutterBalls™ serve a traditional ball "roll."
- Are FlutterBalls™ safe for my cat?
FlutterBalls™ were designed specifically to be soft, safe and durable. The high quality design and construction means that the toys have no small adornments that can come off in a cat's mouth. And the toys can take a lot of abuse and be no worse for the wear. Occasionally a particularly energentic cat will be able to remove a feather or two from the attachment and may even swallow one. This should not normally be a cause for concern. FlutterBall™ feathers are natural and undyed; cats swallow feathers in nature all the time. But check with your vet if you are concerned.
- Are there any games I can teach my cat to play with FlutterBalls™?
Contrary to popular wisdom, some cats CAN be taught to fetch. Try standing on the opposite side of the room and tossing a single FlutterBall™ in your cat's direction (but not AT him!). Again, the quick movement and the blur of feathers will inspire most cats to give chase. Your cat may pick it up and carry it in its mouth toward you. Praise your cat, pick it up and go back to the opposite side of the room and repeat several times. Over time, your cat may learn to enjoy to the fetching game you've taught him. You will too!
- I removed the feather attachment so my cat could play with the balls alone. When I replaced it, it didn't seem to "stick" to the ball as well. Am I doing something wrong?
FlutterBalls™ and their feather attachments adhere to one another through the use of "hook and loop closures" - known universally as the trademarked name, "velcro." As with all "velcro" type closures, make sure that the loop side of the strip is placed against the hook side of the strip to lock the toy and attachment to one another.
- We lost one of our feather attachments. Do you sell replacement feather attachments separately?
Sorry, we currently do not sell the feather attachments separate from the balls themselves.
